Definition of Indulge – to practice a forbidden or questionable act without restraint. In that case, my love of dark chocolate clearly is not an indulgence – it isn’t forbidden or questionable – not by me, anyhow. Let me take you further afield to show you indulgence.
Have you been to Las Vegas lately? Is there any part of The Strip that doesn’t scream, “Step inside and indulge your every whim!” (The Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop is in Harrahs, I hear.)
How about the Grand Canal area of Ft. Lauderdale? Does anyone there own a little paddle boat that they park behind their humble bungalow? (Kilwin’s Chocolates is on East Las Olas Blvd)
Then there is Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. One of their lesser indulgences is the Wafi City Mall. It has a facade that convincingly recreates ancient Egypt. (Godiva Chocolates are on the Ground Floor. Patchi’s Chocolates are on the First Floor. That is me in the red shirt, carrying a box of….)
The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they’re going to have some pretty annoying virtues.
– Elizabeth Taylor –
Admitting vices in my little town makes you suspect! I don’t care. I always get excited when we plan a trip to Las Vegas and the whole town knows. Love your photos – as always.

Indeed, I think your indulgence is a healthy one. You seem to have found not only candy but quality candy and in fine places. If you are ever visiting Portland Oregon I can take you to a mall called Washington Square where at the entrance there is The Cheesecake Factory and then in the mall less than 100 feet away there is a Godiva Chocolates, a See’s Candys and Sheri’s Candys. All of these are on one side of one hall of the mall. Sheri’s is known for Chocolate Dipped Strawberrys. My love for chocolate is rivaled only by my obsession for collecting fabric.
Ta Ta for now, Cathy the Bagg Lady
P.S. Don’t forget that Candy is Dandy but *** won’t rot your Teeth! (i just couldn’t resist-hope not to offend)

I’m in that mall about once a month, but just go to the Apple store. I’ll have to look around for Sheris Candies. How have I missed that? Thanks for the indulgence

Well I will have to double check the the name of it but I am sure it exists. We get strawberries from there every year.

Hi,
These photos sure do show indulge well. 🙂
That boat/ship is unreal, and is that a roller coaster ride going around the buildings in L.A.? If so that is awesome. I would visit there just to go on the ride. 😀
But I really love the way the building is done in Dubai, and would you be holding some Chocolate by any chance? How was the chocolate in Dubai, was it nice or a bit tasteless? A friend bought some chocolate when she was in the Middle East and said it was a bit tasteless.

Hi Mags – I’m not sure where all that roller coaster ride goes – I’ve never been on it!
Yes, that is chocolate I am carrying. European and Middle East chocolate tends to be darker and less sweet. I suppose that would cause a person to say it was less tasty, though personally I prefer dark chocolate.

Hi Barb – Good point! I personally try not to be judgmental because what I view as something I deserve is likely something others view as an indulgence!

Funny, Mark. No, The Red House doesn’t indulge in team shirts, though it is a good idea!

Hi E.C. – Once you are in the casinos, you lose any awareness of time. On the streets, things are just as interesting at night as they are in the day – if you enjoy watching very strange people…

Many years ago there was a confectionary in Cincinnati, Ohio that made chocolate eggs with cream filling. As I recall, they only made them at Easter. They were local not a big chain. To this day when I think of indulgence, I think of the first bite into one of those eggs. They were so rich that you felt like falling backwards into bed with a huge smile on your face. Wow! All joy today Margie and thanks for reminding me of that great treat. HF

I have not been to Las Vegas or Dubai, but the Grand Canal area of Fort Lauderdale is, to me, the epitome of indulgence. Beautiful area, but so much more than I’ll ever be able to afford. 🙂

Hi Robin – For a mere US$ 8 million (payments of only $47,000 per month) you too could own a home on the Grand Canal! Or, if you would prefer one of Dubai’s ‘The World’ islands, they will set you back about $29 million, give or take 5 or 10 million. Too expensive? Perhaps a nice downtown condo in Vegas for $4 million.
Yes, there are just a few people who spend more on a home than most people make in several life times!
