Christmas Greetings – 2015

The Car Guy is in the kitchen making S’More Pinwheels; the snow is gently falling; NORAD is already tracking Santa’s progress; we have no place we have to be until tomorrow morning – Life is Good.

I don’t mean to sound like a Grinch, but if we are going to be ‘entertained’ by Christmas Carols for almost a month, don’t you think they could play this one now and again?

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!
– Written by John Rox, sung by Gayla Peevey in 1953 –

To the member of our family who got my name in the Christmas draw – you didn’t ask me for a Christmas Wish List. Did you finally get me a hippo?

To my small group of faithful readers – and to the thousands of followers of this blog who might stumble onto this post by mistake – Have a very Merry Christmas!

  1. Happy Christmas to you and to you a Good Morning! We’re a bit ahead of the pack (only New Zealand beats us to it) so Happy Christmas Day from me! Hope you get your hippo. Just don’t let it sit on the roof. It will eat all your cake.

    1. Deep down I understand Time Zones – yet it still seems strange that someone is already at Christmas Day! I’ve just started cooking Christmas Eve dinner!
Like you, John Denver is still one of my favourites. But our favourite family Christmas Album is ‘Roger Whittaker’s Christmas Album’ – Darcy the Dragon was the favourite song.

      1. Not only do we get Christmas early but this year we get it at 37 degrees Celsius. The world is a strange place. 🙂
I didn’t grow up with Roger Wittaker’s music. The only thing I know about him is that Gene Hunt in Life On Mars likes him (much to Sam Tyler’s surprise). 🙂

    1. Thanks for the greetings, Steve. Christmas Greetings from your part of the world are always appreciated. Here in western Canada, we have a thin blanket of snow, and bitterly cold temperatures that we would be glad to blow your way, if you like.
Sadly, no hippopotamus – but just as well. The slough out back has been dry for the past year or so…

  2. Hahaha – Just catching up on December posts now because the month has been a busy one! But I wanted to let you know that I LOVE that song and I convinced my other band-mates that we should include it in our Christmas show list for the Seniors’ places we play.
And of course I got to sing the song because I was the only one who knew all the words by heart and who also still apparently has the heart of a little girl who always asked for a chimpanzee for Christmas when she was much, much younger…but now I think a Hippo would do just as nicely for me.
And I do have a two-car garage so it would be no problem to feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage! LOL
Hope you had a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and all the best to you for 2016

    1. How wonderful Sylvia – I would love to see you perform this song!
I don’t think The Car Guy would be willing to share his garage with a hippo…
All the best to you in 2016!
